Architectural expanded metal mesh gives designers a single material that does three jobs at once: it shades, it screens, and it looks the part on a finished building. General Hardware has been manufacturing expanded metal in Manila since 1964, and this is the range we build for architects, facade contractors and interior fit-out teams across the Philippines who want the mesh to be seen, not hidden.
What makes it “architectural” grade
Expanded metal is made by slitting and stretching a single sheet of metal into a diamond pattern, so there are no welds or joins to fail. For architectural work we hold tighter tolerances on the strand and aperture so the pattern reads cleanly across a large facade or screen. You choose the material, the mesh size and the finish to suit the elevation, then we cut it to your panel sizes.
- Materials: mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum
- Standard sheet: 4ft x 8ft, with custom panel sizes made to order
- Open area: specified to balance shade, airflow and sightlines
- Finishes: raw, galvanized or powder-coated to your color
Where architects use expanded metal mesh
- Building facades and sunscreens that cut solar heat while keeping the interior light and airy
- Partitions and room dividers that separate space without closing it off
- Ceilings, columns and cladding where a repeating metal pattern is part of the design
- Signage, balustrading and display units that need a durable, low-maintenance surface
Because the mesh is one continuous piece, it carries its own shape over a span, which is why it
works for large exterior screens as well as small interior details.
Custom sizes and finishes
Most architectural jobs are not standard, so most of what we make is not either. Send us your panel dimensions, the mesh look you are after and the finish, and we will match the material and gauge to the span. If you are still specifying, our team can recommend a mesh size from the elevation and the shade you need.
Why specify General Hardware
We are the first and only specialist in expanded metal manufacturing in the Philippines, and we have been doing only this since 1964. That means the sizing, the gauge and the custom fabrication are handled in-house, not sourced in. You deal with the people who make the mesh.
